Sitotroga cerealella

 

One of the most dangerous and common type.

The color of a butterfly resembles wheat grains.

Body length is 9 mm, while with spreaded wings - 20 mm.

Caterpillar after hatching is pink, then changed to a milky white or straw yellow.

In the grain of wheat, millet, sorghum develop only one caterpillar and maize - 2-3 caterpillars.

Caterpillars pupate inside the grain in advance of preparing the place where you will fly butterfly.

As a rule, grain moth only infects the surface layer of grain - up to 20 cm depth.

Moth is sensitive to low temperatures.

Damaged grain has an unpleasant taste and odor and is unsuitable for food animals and humans
